...River Statement For The Tallapoosa River...

.Recent heavy rainfall is producing rises on the Tallapoosa River.
However, levels are expected to remain below established flood
stages, and any overflow along the river should be of minor nature.


The Tallapoosa River at The Tallapoosa Water Plant.
* At 10:15 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 15.6 feet.
* Action stage is 15.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 25.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will rise to crest near 16.2 feet just after
  midnight tonight. It will remain above action stage but below
  flood stage until Thursday morning when it should fall below
  action stage.   It should fall to 10.3 feet by Thursday morning.
* Impact...At 15.0 feet...Low areas near the junction with the Coosa
  River begin to overflow. Extensive flooding of low lying areas
  begins between US 231 and the river at stages of 15 to 25 feet.


The Tallapoosa River at Milstead.
* At 9:30 AM CDT Saturday the stage was 14.8 feet.
* Action stage is 15.0 feet.
* Flood stage is 40.0 feet.
* Forecast...The river will rise above action stage today and should
  crest near 15.5 feet this evening into the overnight tonight. It
  will then fall back below action stage on Sunday morning. It will
  then fall to around 6.3 feet by Thursday morning.
* Impact...At 15.0 feet...Overflow of pasture lands occurs. Cattle
  may need to be moved if higher stages are forecast.

Another statement will be issued by Sunday morning, or sooner if
conditions warrant.

Please stay tuned to NOAA Weather radio or your local media for
later statements concerning this event.

It is emphasized that these forecasts are based on rainfall that has
already occurred and on additional rainfall expected during the next
48 hours.  If more rainfall than is currently forecast occurs it may
become necessary to revise these forecasts upward.
