Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
408 AM CDT Wed Apr 24 2024

.DISCUSSION...

High pressure will be in control today with light east/southeast
winds expected. High temperatures will warm to the 60s while dew
points remain in the 30s. This will keep relative humidity values
only down to around 30% this afternoon. With higher levels of
humidity, light winds, and moistening fuels, low fire danger is
expected.

Temperatures remain in the 60s tomorrow but dew points will slowly
moisten into the 40s, keeping relative humidity at or above 35%.
Southeast winds will persist but gusts will be stronger, up to 30-40
mph. With the higher humidity and moist fuels in place, only
moderate fire danger is expected. Chances for rain will return
Thursday evening, with rain chances increasing into Thursday night.

...LOW FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the low category
this afternoon. Favorable weather conditions or a high moisture
content of grasses, and other dry organic material on the
ground, indicate that the probability of a fast moving fire is
low. Outdoor burning under these conditions can usually be
with reasonable safety precautions, but should be monitored.

OUTLOOK FOR THURSDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the moderate category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.
