In 1912, exceptionally heavy snows fell across western Kansas.
Travel and communication lines were blocked. Significant livestock
losses were reported. Locomotives near Studley, Kansas, had to plow
railroads which were blocked by snow drifts 14 feet deep.

In 2007, a low pressure system moved across the area bringing
very strong winds and light to moderate snowfall. Winds gusting over
60 mph in many locations produced blizzard conditions for 3 to 5 hours.
One gust of 75 mph was reported in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado.
