...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

In 1942, the most violent tornado on record in the Tri State
area, and the only F5, occurred in Decatur County Kansas. The
tornado formed just east of Oberlin at 1030 at night, and
dissipated near Cedar Bluffs. Three entire families were killed
near Oberlin, with all buildings and several inches of top soil
swept away from the farms. In all, 15 deaths and 25 injuries were
attributed to the twister.
