Fire Weather Planning Forecast for West Texas/Southeast New Mexico
National Weather Service Midland/Odessa TX
345 AM CDT Wed Apr 24 2024
...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH
THURSDAY EVENING FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY OF 15% OR LESS, 20-FT WINDS
OF 20 MPH OR MORE, AND HIGH TO VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER FOR SOUTHEAST
NEW MEXICO AND MOST OF WEST TEXAS...
.DISCUSSION...
Fire weather concerns remain low today under upper-level ridging,
despite critical relative humidity over the higher terrain this
afternoon. Thursday through Sunday, critical to near-critical
fire weather conditions will develop as a series of upper-level
storm systems move through the region, increasing 20-ft winds,
mainly across Southeast New Mexico and adjacent areas of West
Texas. The most critical day looks to be Saturday, with the
arrival of the secondary storm system. Relative humidity will
bottom out at 8-56% this afternoon, and 5-52% Thursday. Recovery
overnight will be poor from the Guadalupe Mountains south through
Candelaria, but moderate to excellent elsewhere.
