............AUGUST 2016 COOLER AND MUCH DRIER THAN NORMAL............

A SERIES OF UPPER LEVEL TROUGHS MOVING ACROSS THE NORTHERN ROCKIES
FOR MUCH OF AUGUST DISRUPTED THE TYPICAL MONSOON PATTERN OVER
NORTHEASTERN COLORADO. THIS RESULTED IN VERY DRY CONDITIONS ACROSS
THE DENVER AREA. THE COMBINATION OF A SERIES OF UPPER TROUGHS AND
ASSOCIATED COOL FRONTS MOVING ACROSS NORTHEASTERN COLORADO RESULTED
IN COOL MORNING LOW TEMPERATURES TOWARD THE END OF THE
MONTH.

TEMPERATURES:

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE AT DENVER INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT FOR THE
MONTH WAS 71.3 DEGREES F, WHICH WAS 1.3 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. THE
WARMEST AUGUST ON RECORD OCCURRED BACK IN 2011...WITH AN AVERAGE
MONTHLY TEMPERATURE OF 77.0 DEGREES F. THE COLDEST AUGUST ON RECORD
WAS 66.5 DEGREES F BACK IN 1915. ON THE 9TH...THE TEMPERATURE
CLIMBED TO 97 DEGREES F WHICH IS THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE OF THE
MONTH. THE COLDEST TEMPERATURE OF 47 DEGREES F OCCURRED ON THE
MORNING OF THE 20TH AND 25TH. ON THE MORNING OF THE 27TH...THE
