...Data for Little Rock Adams Field for October 2017...

.Summary...
October 2017 was definitely an interesting month at Little Rock.
Though the monthly departure from normal was above average for the
first time since April, it was not above by much.

Daily readings ranged from 5 to near 15 degrees above average during
much of the first half of the month, with temperatures really crashing
the last two weeks, ranging from around 5 to near 20 degrees below
average.

There were 90-degree high temperatures during the first and second
weeks of the month. By the fourth week, we were seeing freezing
temperatures, which had not happened in the month of October in 24
years.

Rainfall was below average again this month, though we failed to
crack the top ten driest Octobers.

For the first time in 24 years, snowfall occurred in October.

.Monthly Temperatures...
The average high temperature was the coolest since 2013. The average
low temperature was the coolest since 2012. The average monthly
temperature was the coolest since 2013.

.Daily Temperatures...
Daily temperatures were above average on 17 days, below average on
13 days and average on one day.

On the 28th...

The low temperature of 31 degrees most recently tied the 8th
coldest on record for the month. This was also the earliest freeze
at Little Rock since 1989, and was the 8th earliest freeze on
record.

The daily average temperature of 41.0 was the coldest during the
month since 1993, and most recently tied October 29, 1913 for the
7th coldest on record.

On the 29th...

The low temperature of 28 degrees marked the coldest temperature in
the month of October at Little Rock since 1917, and the 2nd coldest
on record during the month. Only October 30, 1917 was colder (low of
27).

On the 31st...

The high temperature of 49 degrees marked the coldest daily high
temperature at Little Rock during the month of October since 1993,
and most recently tied October 22, 1937 for the 10th coldest on
record.

.Monthly Rainfall...
Rainfall was significantly below average for the second month in a
row. It was the driest October since 2011.

None.

.Monthly Snowfall...
For the first time since 1993, snowfall occurred during the month of
October in the form of brief, light sleet.

The sleet fell on the evening of the 27th, and this marked the
earliest snowfall ever recorded at Little Rock, beating the previous
record of a Trace on October 28, 1925. Since precipitation records
began in 1874, this is only one of five days of recorded snowfall
during the month of October.

Even though the snowfall was not measurable, this October is tied
with 1993 and 1925 for the snowiest October on record.

The sleet on the 27th ties with October 30, 1993, October 29, 1993,
October 30, 1925, and October 28, 1925 for what is technically the
snowiest calendar day on record during the month, as well as the
snowiest 24-hour period on record during the month.
