THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN JUNEAU HAS ISSUED A

* FLOOD ADVISORY FOR...THE TAIYA RIVER NEAR SKAGWAY

* UNTIL 1000 AM AKDT MONDAY

* AT 719 PM AKDT...RAIN RATES OF UP TO A TENTH OF AN INCH PER HOUR
HAVE BEEN FALLING ON THE HEADWATERS OF THE TAIYA RIVER FOR THE LAST
SEVERAL HOURS. THE TAIYA RIVER HAS RESPONDED BY RISING TO 16.6 FEET
WHICH IS ABOVE MINOR FLOOD STAGE OF 16.5 FEET AND IT CONTINUES TO
RISE.

* RAIN IS STARTING TO LIGHTEN UP BUT SOME LIGHT RAIN WILL CONTINUE
FALLING ON THE TAIYA RIVER BASIN THROUGH THE NIGHT. THE RIVER IS
EXPECTED TO CREST AROUND 10 PM AT AROUND 16.9 FEET JUST BELOW
MODERATE FLOOD STAGE OF 17.0 FEET. THE RIVER WILL THEN SLOWLY FALL
THROUGH THE NIGHT. HIKERS ON THE CHILKOOT TRAIL WILL ENCOUNTER KNEE
TO THIGH DEEP WATER ON THE FIRST 3 MILES OF THE TRAIL AND SHOULD
CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE RIVER LEVEL THROUGHOUT THE NIGHT.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

IF YOU LIVE NEAR OR ALONG THE TAIYA RIVER STAY ALERT AND BE PREPARED
TO TAKE ACTION.

A FLOOD ADVISORY MEANS RIVER OR STREAM FLOWS ARE ELEVATED OR PONDING
OF WATER IN URBAN OR OTHER AREAS IS OCCURRING OR IS IMMINENT.
