FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NORTHEAST AND NORTH CENTRAL
COLORADO
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DENVER/BOULDER CO
410 AM MDT TUE SEP 30 2014

.DISCUSSION...TODAY AND TONIGHT...A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM
CENTERED OVER WESTERN SOUTH DAKOTA WILL QUICKLY TRACK NORTHEAST AWAY
FROM COLORADO TODAY. STRONG WESTERLY FLOW ON BACK SIDE OF THIS
SYSTEM WILL COMBINE WITH A MOUNTAIN WAVE TO PRODUCE STRONG AND GUSTY
WINDS ON THE RIDGETOPS AND EAST FACING SLOPES OF THE FRONT RANGE
THIS MORNING. THIS SAME STRONG FLOW ALOFT IS ALSO EXPECTED TO MOVE
MOISTURE BACK INTO WESTERN COLORADO RESULTING IN SCATTERED SHOWERS
AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS FOR MOUNTAIN AREAS THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH
THIS EVENING. DRY AND SEASONABLY MILD TEMPERATURES WILL PREVAIL EAST
OF THE MOUNTAINS.

LONG TERM DISCUSSION...WEDNESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY...AN UPPER LEVEL
DISTURBANCE AND ASSOCIATED COLD FRONT WILL MOVE ACROSS COLORADO ON
WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND NIGHT. EXPECT LIGHT SNOW ACCUMULATION IN THE
MOUNTAINS WITH RAIN AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS BECOMING LIKELY ACROSS
LOWER ELEVATIONS WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. THE SHOWERS WILL
DIMINISH LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT. A MODERATE NORTHWEST FLOW PATTERN
WILL DEVELOP ON THURSDAY AND EXTEND INTO NEXT WEEKEND WITH A DRYING
AND WARMING TREND.

...THUNDERSTORMS IMPLY STRONG GUSTY ERRATIC WINDS...
...ALL SURFACE WINDS ARE 20-FOOT...10-MINUTE AVERAGED WINDS...
...CWR IS CHANCE OF WETTING RAIN - 0.10 INCH OR MORE LIQUID...
...24 HR TRENDS ARE BASED ON AVERAGES OVER THE RESPECTIVE ZONE
GROUPS AND MAY NOT MATCH THE ACTUAL FORECAST VALUES
                     SHOWN IN THOSE GROUPS...
