FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR UTAH
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE SALT LAKE CITY UT
351 AM MDT SAT OCT 1 2016

...WINDS INCREASING SIGNIFICANTLY NEXT FEW DAYS...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A COLD STORM SYSTEM WILL APPROACH THIS
WEEKEND BRINGING GUSTY WINDS. SHOWERS ACROSS THE NORTH AND EAST
WILL BECOME MORE NUMEROUS GOING INTO NEXT WEEK WITH AN ELEVATED
POTENTIAL OF WETTING RAINS MONDAY INTO TUESDAY...WITH HIGH ELEVATION
SNOW LIKELY ACROSS THE NORTH.

.DISCUSSION...ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS WILL
DEVELOP AGAIN THIS AFTERNOON, WITH THE BEST COVERAGE ACROSS NORTHERN
UTAH AND ALONG THE MOUNTAINS OF CENTRAL UTAH. THE THREAT OF WETTING
RAIN IS GENERALLY LESS THAN YESTERDAY, THOUGH ISOLATED HEAVY RAINERS
CANNOT BE RULED OUT. THE THREAT OF GUSTY/ERRATIC WINDS IS GENERALLY
HIGHER TODAY DUE TO A SLIGHTLY DRIER AIRMASS.

SOUTH-SOUTHWESTERLY WINDS WILL INCREASE SIGNIFICANTLY ON
SUNDAY AHEAD OF ANY APPROACHING STORM SYSTEM. THIS WILL BE A FAIRLY
STRONG WIND EVENT, WITH GUSTS GREATER THAN 40 MPH POSSIBLE,
PARTICULARLY ACROSS WESTERN UTAH. HOWEVER, NO FIRE WEATHER
HEADLINES ARE EXPECTED AT THIS TIME, AS FUELS REMAIN
RELATIVELY MOIST ACROSS THE REGION.

THE STORM SYSTEM WILL PUSH ACROSS UTAH SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY,
WITH TEMPERATURES COOLING SIGNIFICANTLY. PRECIPITATION IS LIKELY
WITH THIS STORM, PARTICULARLY OVER NORTHERN UTAH, AND SNOW LEVELS
WILL DROP TO NEAR 6,000 FEET BY MONDAY EVENING. LINGERING SHOWERS
ARE POSSIBLE THROUGH TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY ACROSS THE NORTH.

***THUNDERSTORMS IMPLY STRONG GUSTY AND ERRATIC WINDS***
***ALL WINDS ARE 20 FOOT...10-MINUTE AVERAGES***
