...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM PDT THIS
EVENING...

* Timing: Strong winds behind a cold front will continue through
  early evening before diminishing some.

* Winds: Through early evening north to northwest winds 30 to 40
  mph with gusts to 60 mph. Gusts up to 75 mph in wind prone
  locations including portions of US-395 in Mono County and US-95
  near Walker Lake. Sierra ridge gusts up to 110 mph. Winds will
  diminish later this evening but gusts 30 to 40 mph remain likely
  through Friday morning.

* Impacts: Strong crosswinds will produce dangerous travel
  conditions with restrictions likely for high profile
  vehicles. Expect areas of turbulence and wind shear for
  aviation, and choppy waters on area lakes.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

The strong winds are here now, it`s too late to prepare. If
driving around Nevada or the eastern Sierra, check road conditions
with NDOT or Caltrans before leaving.

...LAKE WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 6 PM PDT FRIDAY FOR
LAKE TAHOE...

* Timing: Strong northerly winds behind a cold front will continue
  through early evening before diminishing. Northeast winds will
  increase on ridges Friday with some strong winds affecting Lake
  Tahoe during the day Friday producing rough waters.

* Winds: Through early evening north winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts
  up to 50 mph. On Friday, northeast ridge winds gusting to 75 mph
  especially along the Sierra Crest. Winds Friday on Lake Tahoe
  northeast 25 to 35 mph with the strongest winds toward the west
  shores.

* Waves on Lake Tahoe: 2 to 4 feet today and Friday. Highest waves
  on eastern and southern shores today, and on the western shores
  Friday.

* Impacts: Strong crosswinds will produce hazardous travel
  conditions for high profile vehicles. Expect turbulence and
  areas of wind shear for aviation. Small boats, kayaks and
  paddle boards will be prone to capsizing and should remain
  off lake waters until conditions improve.

driving around Nevada or the Sierra, check road conditions with
NDOT or Caltrans before leaving.

For those considering boating on Lake Tahoe Friday, check lake
conditions before heading out and be prepared for a sudden
increase in winds and wave heights. Consider postponing boating
activities on the lake until a day with less wind.

* Timing: Strong north winds will continue through early evening,
  then gradually diminish overnight.

* Winds: Through early evening north 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to
  55 mph. Gusts up to 65 mph in wind prone areas including I-580
  between Reno and Carson City, and foothill locations. Gusty
  winds but not nearly as strong continuing Friday.

* Impacts: Strong crosswinds will produce hazardous travel
  conditions with restrictions likely for high profile
  vehicles. Choppy conditions can be expected on Washoe Lake.
  Expect areas of turbulence and wind shear for aviation.

* Timing: Strong north winds will continue through this evening,
  before gradually diminishing overnight.

* Winds: North winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 50 mph. Locally
  stronger gusts up to 60 mph in wind prone areas including US-95
  Alternate between Fernley and Silver Springs. Winds remaining
  gusty but not nearly as strong Friday.

* Waves on Pyramid Lake: 2 to 4 feet. Highest waves on eastern
  and southern shores.

* Impacts: Strong crosswinds will produce hazardous travel
  conditions with restrictions likely for high profile
  vehicles. Expect areas of turbulence and wind shear for
  aviation. Small boats, kayaks and paddle boards will be
  prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until
  conditions improve.
