FRIDAY TO 8 PM PDT /8 PM MST/ SUNDAY...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN LAS VEGAS HAS ISSUED AN EXCESSIVE
HEAT WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM PDT /10 AM MST/
FRIDAY TO 8 PM PDT /8 PM MST/ SUNDAY. THIS REPLACES THE EXCESSIVE
HEAT WATCH WHICH HAD BEEN IN EFFECT.

* TEMPERATURE...HIGHS WILL BE 105 TO 110 IN LAS VEGAS AND FOR MUCH
  OF THE MOJAVE DESERT...110 TO 117 IN THE COLORADO RIVER VALLEY...
  AND 115 TO 121 IN DEATH VALLEY. LOWS WILL GENERALLY BE 75 TO 85.

* IMPACTS...HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES SUCH AS HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
  STROKE WILL BE POSSIBLE. TEMPERATURES WERE BELOW NORMAL FOR THE
  SECOND HALF OF MAY...SO PEOPLE MAY NOT BE ACCLIMATED TO THE HEAT.
  PEOPLE MOST VULNERABLE INCLUDE THOSE WHO ARE SPENDING LOTS OF TIME
  OUTDOORS...THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE AIR CONDITIONING...YOUNG
  CHILDREN...THE ELDERLY...AND THOSE WITH CHRONIC AILMENTS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

AN EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF DANGEROUSLY HOT
TEMPERATURES WILL OCCUR...WHICH WILL CREATE A DANGEROUS SITUATION
IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE LIKELY. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER...STAY IN
AN AIR CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN... AND CHECK UP ON
RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT
STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE
AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN
SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT
SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN
EMERGENCY...CALL 9 1 1.

YOUNG CHILDREN AND PETS SHOULD NEVER BE LEFT UNATTENDED IN VEHICLES
UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE DURING WARM OR HOT
WEATHER WHEN CAR INTERIORS CAN REACH LETHAL TEMPERATURES IN A MATTER
