...MISSISSIPPI RIVER AND ILLINOIS RIVER ICE STATEMENT...

                ICE COVER CONDITIONS AS OF 1/24/2017

MISSISSIPPI RIVER

ICE CONDITIONS REMAINED ABOUT THE SAME IN THE NORTH WHILE WE LOST ICE
IN THE SOUTH.

LOCK AND DAMS 1 THROUGH 13 REPORTED 40 TO 100 PERCENT ICE COVERAGE
TODAY WITH THICKNESSES OF 4 TO 14 INCHES.  LD14 THROUGH LD24 REPORTED
MOSTLY 10 PERCENT COVERAGE WITH ICE 1 TO 2 INCHES THICK.  THE
EXCEPTIONS WERE 100 PERCENT COVERAGE AT LD19, AND 10 PERCENT COVERAGE
AT LD21 WITH ICE 8 INCHES THICK.

IT WAS TOO CLOUDY IN THE PAST FEW DAYS FOR VIIRS SATELLITE IMAGERY
TO SHOW ICE CONDITIONS. THE IMAGERY CAN BE FOUND AT
REALEARTH.SSEC.WISC.EDU/?PRODUCTS=RVER-ICEC-NC

WATER TEMPERATURES WERE 31 TO 33 DEGREES EXCEPT FOR 41 TO 42
DEGREES AT LD25 THROUGH LD27.

ILLINOIS RIVER SYSTEM (CHICAGO/ILLINOIS R)

NO ICE WAS REPORTED TODAY ON THE ILLINOIS OR THE TRIBUTARIES TO THE
ILLINOIS.  HOWEVER, THERE IS PROBABLY STILL A LITTLE ICE IN THE
SYSTEM, ESPECIALLY AROUND BRIDGES, BENDS, AND OTHER OBSTRUCTIONS.

WATER TEMPERATURES WERE IN THE 30S AND 40S.

ICE FACTORS AS OF 1/24/2017:

OUTLOOK FOR NEXT 7 DAYS:

A COOLING TREND IS UNDERWAY FOR THE NEXT WEEK BUT AIR TEMPERATURES
WILL STILL BE A LITTLE ABOVE NORMAL.

IN THE NORTH...HIGHS WILL BE IN THE 30S TODAY AND TOMORROW THEN IN
THE 20S THROUGH NEXT WEEK.  LOWS WILL BE IN THE 20S TODAY AND
TOMORROW THEN IN THE TEENS THROUGH NEXT WEEK.

IN THE SOUTH...HIGHS WILL BE IN THE 40S AND 50S TODAY, 30S AND
40S TOMORROW,THEN 20S AND 30S THROUGH NEXT WEEK.  LOWS WILL BE
IN THE 30S TONIGHT, 20S TOMORROW, THEN IN THE TEENS AND 20S
THROUGH NEXT WEEK.

IN OUR REGION...LOW TEMPERATURES THIS MORNING WERE 30 DEGREES AT
ST CLOUD, 32 DEGREES IN THE TWIN CITIES, 32 DEGREES IN THE QUAD
CITIES, 35 DEGREES AT PEORIA, AND 38 DEGREES AT ST LOUIS.

BASED ON THESE FACTORS...ICE SHOULD FORM AND THICKEN IN THE NORTH
THROUGH NEXT WEEK.  WE COULD SEE A LITTLE NEW ICE FORMATION IN
THE SOUTH LATER THIS WEEK THROUGH NEXT WEEK.

THE NEXT RIVER ICE STATEMENT WILL BE ISSUED ON TUESDAY
JANUARY 31, 2017.
