...ICE JAMS ON THE KENNEBEC RIVER IN MADISON...

AN ICE JAM HAS FORMED ON THE KENNEBEC RIVER IN MADISON. WATER IS
WITHIN ABOUT 2 FEET OF RIVER ROAD. THIS IS LIKELY THE RESULT OF FRAZIL
ICE FORMATION AND THE FACT THAT THERE WAS SOME ICE MOVEMENT BACK ON
JANUARY 19 DURING A RAIN EVENT. THIS ICE HAS NOW FROZEN IN PLACE. ICE
IS ALSO CAUSING HIGHER THAN NORMAL WATER LEVELS ON THE KENNEBEC RIVER
AT NORTH SIDNEY. THE WATER IS WITHIN ONE HALF FOOT OF FLOOD STAGE.
HOWEVER FLOODING IS NOT ANTICIPATED AT THIS LOCATION DUE TO THE VERY
LOCAL NATURE OF ICE JAMS. THE JAMS WILL BE MONITORED OVER THE NEXT FEW
DAYS. WITH THE VERY COLD WINTER AIR IN PLACE RIVER FLOWS WILL BE SLOWLY
FALLING.
