...WINTER STORM MAY INTERFERE WITH CHRISTMAS RETURN TRIPS...

A WINTER STORM IS EXPECTED TO ENTER IDAHO SATURDAY NIGHT AND
SPREAD SNOW THROUGH CENTRAL AND EASTERN IDAHO FROM THEN THROUGH
INTO SUNDAY EVENING.

MOST MOUNTAIN LOCATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO RECEIVE FROM 5 TO 10
INCHES OF NEW SNOW DURING THE PERIOD. THERE ARE A FEW HIGH
ELEVATION LOCATIONS...SUCH AS GALENA SUMMIT ON STATE ROUTE 75 AND
TETON PASS GOING FROM IDAHO INTO WYOMING...THAT COULD RECEIVE AS
MUCH AS 10 TO 18 INCHES OF NEW SNOW.

AT LOWER ELEVATIONS...ONE TO FIVE INCHES OF SNOWFALL CAN BE
EXPECTED IN THE EASTERN MAGIC VALLEY AND SNAKE RIVER PLAIN.
EASTERN MAGIC VALLEY AMOUNTS SHOULD BE LOWER THAN THE UPPER SNAKE
RIVER PLAIN WITH A TRACK SLIGHTLY FARTHER NORTH THAN THE CHRISTMAS
DAY STORM.

BESIDES THE SNOWFALL...WIND OF 15 TO 25 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS WILL
CAUSE HEAVY DRIFTING SNOW AND LOW VISIBILITY IN BLOWING SNOW. THIS
COULD MEAN TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES AS SNOW REMOVAL CREWS TRY TO
KEEP UP WITH THE SNOW ACCUMULATION. EXPECT SLOWER SPEEDS ON
HIGHWAYS AND PLAN FOR EXTRA TIME TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION.

THE BEST STRATEGY FOR CHRISTMAS TRAVELERS WOULD BE TO DEPART
SATURDAY AND AVOID THE WINTER STORM COMPLETELY.
