...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

IN 1935, A NOTORIOUS DUST STORM MOVED ACROSS RAWLINS COUNTY,
KANSAS. PEOPLE HUNG WET TOWELS OR SHEETS OVER THEIR WINDOWS TO
ABSORB SOME OF THE DUST BEFORE IT ENTERED HOUSES. DRIVERS CAUGHT
IN THE STORM RAN OFF ROADS. THE DUST STORM ALSO ROLLED OVER WALLACE
COUNTY WHERE ONE PERSON WROTE, "IT LOOKED LIKE THE END OF THE WORLD".

IN 1995, WINDS GUSTING TO 75 MPH WERE REPORTED AT SAINT
FRANCIS, 62 MPH AT BIRD CITY AND 69 MPH AT GOODLAND BEHIND A
STRONG COLD FRONT.
