...ON THIS DATE IN WEATHER HISTORY...

IN 2010, AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPED AND MOVED NORTHEAST
ACROSS RED WILLOW COUNTY IN SOUTHWEST NEBRASKA.  AN APPARENT
MICROBURST AT MCCOOK, NEBRASKA, RESULTED IN A SMALL AREA OF DAMAGE.
A PEAK WIND GUST OF 59 MPH OCCURRED AT THE AIRPORT, BUT DAMAGE IN TOWN
OCCURRED FROM AN ESTIMATED 80 MPH WIND GUST. A 6000 SQUARE FOOT
SECTION OF ROOF WAS TORN FROM THE LOCAL LUMBER YARD AND THE SHEET METAL
WRAPPED AROUND AND DAMAGED SEVERAL VEHICLES, CAUSING SEVERE BODY
AND TIRE DAMAGE. A NEARBY CAR DEALERSHIP ALSO SUSTAINED DAMAGE AND
WINDS WERE STRONG ENOUGH TO TOPPLE A LIGHT POLE.
