.Warm temperatures are leading to rapid snowmelt along and near the
Tanana River.  This may lead to high water flows and minor flooding
near the river.

...FLOOD WATCH FOR SNOWMELT IN EFFECT THROUGH WEDNESDAY MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by snowmelt is possible.

* WHERE...Including the following areas, Eielson AFB and Salcha and
  Fairbanks Metro Area.  This includes the cities of Eielson Afb,
  Salcha, Moose Creek, Harding Lake, The Richardson Highway From Mp
  317 To Mp 346, Fairbanks, Fort Wainwright, Ester, North Pole, And
  Fox.

* WHEN...Through Wednesday morning.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
  creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
  Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.

As of Friday morning, the Tanana at Fairbanks is near bankful, with
water levels rising upstream at Big Delta.  The Tanana will continue
to rise with increasing temperatures; highest daily stages will be
in the late afternoon/early evening and lowest daily stages in the
morning.  Flooding may occur from the Tanana, nearby tributaries or
groundwater.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - High water due to snowmelt is pushing through the Tanana
    Basin.

  - If you live near or along Tanana River stay alert and be
  prepared to take action.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood
Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared
to take action should flooding develop.
