ROCHESTER FOR SEPTEMBER 2014...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR SEPTEMBER 2014 AT THE ROCHESTER
INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT WAS 59.8 DEGREES...WHICH WAS 1.1 DEGREES BELOW
NORMAL. THE AVERAGE HIGH TEMPERATURE WAS 70.0 WHILE THE AVERAGE LOW
WAS 49.5 DEGREES. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE RECORDED DURING THE MONTH
WAS 85 DEGREES...WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 4TH WHILE THE LOWEST READING
WAS 34 ON THE 13TH.

3.54 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL IN SEPTEMBER...WHICH WAS 0.09
INCHES ABOVE NORMAL. THE GREATEST 24 HOUR RAINFALL WAS 1.28 INCHES
WHICH OCCURRED ON THE 1ST.

SEPTEMBER 4TH...THE LOW OF 69 DEGREES TIED THE RECORD FOR THE
WARMEST LOW TEMPERATURE LAST SET IN 1990.

SEPTEMBER 12TH...THE HIGH OF 51 DEGREES BROKE THE RECORD FOR COLDEST
HIGH TEMPERATURE PREVIOUSLY SET IN 1989.

...DISCUSSION...

MUCH OF SEPTEMBER FEATURED A DRIER...NORTHWEST FLOW REGIME WHICH
BROUGHT BOUTS OF AUTUMN AIR TO THE UPPER MISSISSIPPI RIVER VALLEY.
THERE WERE TWO NOTABLE PERIODS DURING THE MONTH...A SIGNIFICANT COLD
SNAP DURING THE MIDDLE OF THE MONTH THAT SENT TEMPERATURES 10 TO 20
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. NEAR THE END OF THE MONTH...A STRONG RIDGE OF
HIGH PRESSURE BROUGHT SEVERAL DAYS OF VERY WARM AND ALMOST SUMMER
LIKE WEATHER TO THE REGION. REGULAR FREQUENCY OF WEATHER SYSTEMS
KEPT PRECIPITATION TOTALS FOR THE MONTH NEAR NORMAL.

...LOOKING AHEAD TO OCTOBER...

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH IS 48.4 DEGREES. THE AVERAGE
HIGH DROPS FROM 65 DEGREES ON THE 1ST...TO 51 DEGREES ON THE 31ST.
THE AVERAGE LOW DROPS FROM 44 DEGREES ON THE 1ST...TO 34 DEGREES ON
THE 31ST. THE WARMEST OCTOBER ON RECORD WAS IN 1963 WITH AN AVERAGE
OF 58.1 DEGREES...AND THE COLDEST OCTOBER WAS 37.9 DEGREES IN 1917.

THE AVERAGE OCTOBER PRECIPITATION IS 2.24 INCHES. THE WETTEST OCTOBER
OCCURRED IN 1911...WHEN 9.11 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL. THE DRIEST
