.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 1030 PM EDT Wed May 8 2024

Currently - A surface through lower Atlantic ridge stretches
westward across the Florida Peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico.
This is generating gentle to moderate east to southeasterly
breezes across the Keys. Fairly sharp mid and upper level ridging
is now aligned across our area and brings with it higher heights
and decreasing moisture. This evenings sounding indicated a
couple of prominent inversion layers with the most important one
based around 900 mb. Precipitable water has fallen to a bit more
than one inch despite surface dew points remaining in the lower
70s. Overall, conditions are unfavorable for shower formation and
the only activity currently seen on local radars reside along
Cuba`s southern coast.

Short Term Update - Robust ridging across Florida is expected to
settle slightly southward through the overnight period. This along
with the usual diurnal patterns should result in a slight
increase in east to southeasterly breezes over the next few hours,
but then lead to a moderate amount of relaxing out of the
southeast. Healthy ridging through the mid and upper levels will
continue to dominate our area. This will assist in maintaining an
overall inhospitable environment for showers. As a result, rain
chances will remain out of the forecast. Summer is definitely well
on the way as overnight lows will struggle to slip below 80 with
dew points holding in the lower to mid 70s.
