Survey Summary:

The intermittent tornado initially touched down in a heavily
wooded area between Pauline Road and Coxburg Road South approximately
two miles north of Interstate 40. The tornado caused intermittent
tree damage as it tracked east-southeast over Eagle Creek and
briefly lifted west of Coxburg Road South. The tornado touched
down again 200 yards east, or just east of Coxburg Road South. The
tornado dissipated in a heavily wooded area approximately three-quarters
of a mile east-southeast of Coxburg Road South. Total track
length was 1.3 miles and 100 yards wide. A Severe Thunderstorm
Warning with a tornado possible tag was in effect during this
time.

Drone imagery was used to obtain the full track of the tornado as
the damage was nearly inaccessible by foot.

Southwest Tennessee Wind Damage

Extensive surveys were conducted in areas with potential radar-
indicated tornadic signatures across northwestern Fayette County
and northern Shelby County, Tennessee. No damage was found with
the majority of these circulations, but a few sporadic locations
exhibited signs of a broad damaging wind swath. A few power poles
were laid down in the same direction just off W Union Road,
colocated with a surge in KNQA radar velocity data around 1:00 AM
CDT on May 9 in excess of 70 MPH at the lowest elevation tilt. A
Severe Thunderstorm Warning was in effect during this time, and
another Severe Thunderstorm Warning with a Considerable (70+ MPH)
damage tag was issued for this area shortly after 1:00 AM CDT. The
most significant damage was found north of Millington along the
Shelby-Tipton County line. A few trees were uprooted north of
Rosemark along Deadfall Road and Macedonia Road. Maximum wind
speeds within these swaths of damaging winds were estimated to be
70-80 MPH. Otherwise, very few trees showed any signs of damage
other than a few large limbs broken intermittently throughout
northern Shelby County.
