SEPTEMBER 2016 WAS NOTABLY WARMER THAN NORMAL ACROSS SOUTHWEST LOWER
MICHIGAN. MUSKEGON RECORDED ITS WARMEST SEPTEMBER ON RECORD. RECORDS
BEGAN THERE IN 1896. AVERAGE TEMPERATURE IN GRAND RAPIDS AND LANSING
WAS IN THE TOP TEN ON RECORD.

TEMPERATURES WERE CONSISTENTLY WARMER THAN NORMAL THROUGH THE FIRST
THREE WEEKS OF SEPTEMBER... WITH DAILY HIGHS MAINLY IN THE 70S AND
80S. SOME LOCATIONS EVEN HIT 90 DEGREES ON SEPTEMBER 6TH.
TEMPERATURES DIPPED BACK TO REALITY DURING THE LAST WEEK OF THE
MONTH... WITH HIGHS IN THE 60S. ABOVE NORMAL LOW TEMPERATURES KEPT
THE DAILY AVERAGES CLOSER TO NORMAL DURING THE FINAL WEEK OF
SEPTEMBER.

PRECIPITATION WAS VARIABLE ACROSS THE AREA IN SEPTEMBER... BELOW
NORMAL FOR MANY AREAS WITH TWO SIGNIFICANT EXCEPTIONS. AREAS NORTH
OF GRAND RAPIDS AND WEST OF BIG RAPIDS SAW ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL...
AS DID SOUTHEAST LOWER MICHIGAN EXTENDING TO LANSING. IN FACT...
MUSKEGON HAD WELL ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL. MUSKEGON SET BACK-TO-BACK
DAILY RAINFALL RECORDS ON THE 6TH AND 7TH OF SEPTEMBER. 4.24 INCHES
FELL IN MUSKEGON OVER THOSE TWO DAYS.
