HYDROLOGIC OUTLOOK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BISMARCK ND
451 AM CDT THU AUG 21 2014 /351 AM MDT THU AUG 21 2014/

...SEVERAL ROUNDS OF HEAVY RAIN THROUGH THE WEEKEND...

AN ADDITIONAL ONE TO THREE INCHES OF RAINFALL IS FORECAST ACROSS
WESTERN NORTH DAKOTA THROUGH THE WEEKEND. THE NEXT ROUND OF HEAVY
RAIN WILL BEGIN THIS AFTERNOON AND END FRIDAY MORNING.
ADDITIONAL ROUNDS ARE FORECAST THROUGH THE WEEKEND. WITH EACH
PASSING THUNDERSTORM...THE RISK FOR OVERLAND AND SMALL STREAM
FLOODING INCREASES.

FOR THE MISSOURI RIVER TRIBUTARIES...
THE KNIFE AND HEART RIVERS AND APPLE CREEK ARE RUNNING WELL ABOVE
NORMAL. RAINFALL GREATER THAN ONE INCH MAY RESULT IN OVERLAND
FLOODING...POSSIBLY TRANSITIONING INTO FLOODING ALONG SMALL
STREAMS AND RIVERS.

IN THE SOURIS AND JAMES RIVER BASINS...
UNLESS RECEIVED IN A DOWNPOUR...SOILS SHOULD BE ABLE TO HANDLE
TWO INCHES OF RAIN FROM THUNDERSTORMS. SUBSEQUENT HEAVY RAINS
WOULD LIKELY RESULT IN EXCESSIVE RUNOFF...SO OVERLAND AND SMALL
STREAM FLOODING IS POSSIBLE.
