Winter/Spring Flood Potential Outlook
National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC
448 PM EST Thu Jan 19 2017

...THE SPRING FLOOD OUTLOOK CALLS FOR NORMAL POTENTIAL OF RIVER
FLOODING ACROSS NORTH CAROLINA THROUGH EARLY SPRING...

Historically for the Carolinas the river flood season begins in
early to mid January with the number of flood events increasing
through late winter with a peak in early spring.

Precipitation the past 30 days has been normal...and stream
flows are running near normal over the region.

Future rainfall is forecast to be above normal as several storm
systems will move across the region next week. Beyond next week,
colder and drier weather may dominate the region.

Based on the above data the river flood outlook through the
remainder of winter and into early spring is considered normal.

The next outlook will be issued on February 2 2017.
