Flood Statement

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following rivers
and creeks in central and southern Indiana...

  Big Walnut Creek...Deer Creek...Driftwood River...East Fork White
  River...Eel River...Mississinewa River...Muscatatuck River...Sugar
  Creek...Tippecanoe River...Wabash River...White River...Wildcat
  Creek...


.Multiple rounds of rainfall are expected this week across Indiana.
The rain will likely be heavy at times with embedded thunderstorms.
Rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches with some locally higher amounts
appear possible at this time.

Flooding on some area creeks are in progress or will soon be. River
flooding will likely develop by mid to late week. Extensive flooding
will develop along portions of the Wabash River starting Wednesday
morning in the Lafayette area to early next week south of
Hutsonville and Riverton in western Indiana. Extensive flooding along
the Tippecanoe River near Delphi is forecast to develop early
Thursday morning. Flooding will affect numerous local and state
roads, considerable agricultural land, and possibly some residential
areas.

Those with interests along area rivers and streams should closely
monitor forecasts and conditions in the coming days and be prepared
to take action to protect life and property.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river
conditions.

* At 10:45 PM Monday the flow was 8870 cfs.
* Flood stage is 13000 cfs.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise to flood stage Tuesday evening, rising to 16.6
  feet Wednesday.
* At 18000 feet...Extensive flooding with some evacuations and
  property damage with flows from Oakdale Dam between 18,000 and
  22,000 cubic feet per second.  Major flooding may develop.  All
  local roads along the Tippecanoe River in Carroll, White and
  Tippecanoe counties flood.

  and property damage.  Many low local roads near the Tippecanoe
  River are flooded at this level.  Approaching major flood levels.

* Flood stage is 11.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by early tomorrow and continue to
  rise to near 22.7 feet by Thursday early afternoon.
* At 22.0 feet...Extensive flooding is in progress. Flood waters block
  direct access to Wabash Valley Hospital.  During agricultural
  season extensive crop damage occurs. Roads that flood include N
  River Rd, SR 225 south of Battleground, Stair Road, Barton Beach
  Rd, Division Rd and CR 700 W at the Granville Bridge Public Access
  Site and CR 950 W. Pretty Prairie Rd near Moots Creek and lowest
  portion of Goldsberry Rd likely flood.  Basement flooding along N
  River Road, N 9th Street and Barton Beach Rd begins.

  at the edge of SR 234 near Lodi just west of the bridge over the
  Wabash River. Several county roads in Fountain, Parke and
  Vermillion counties are flooded, some by more than 2 feet of water.

  roads are under several feet of water.

  feet Tuesday morning.
* At 25.0 feet...Extensive flooding is in progress in York and
  Hutsonville, Illinois.  Flood waters surround homes and are in a
  local park.  Local river road south of Hutsonville to Palestine
  almost floods.

* Flood stage is 15.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by early Wednesday morning and
  continue to rise to near 23.7 feet by Tuesday early afternoon.
* At 24.0 feet...Extensive flooding is in progress.  Most levees are
  at critical levels.  Water level near the top of a few levees.
  High water begins to affect residences in eastern Palestine,
  Illinois and those along East River Road just southeast of
  Palestine.  Some evacuations are necessary. Rodeo area in Leaverton
  Park begins to flood.  Water near or over East River Road south of
  Palestine.

* Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by late Thursday morning and
  continue to rise to near 23.5 feet by Wednesday evening. additional
  rises are possible thereafter.
* At 24.0 feet...Water is at critical stage for portions of the
  Brevoort Levee and Russell-Allison Levees.  Seep water becomes a
  problem in rural areas protected by levees.  Commercial and a few
  residential areas flood along Old Vincennes Road.  Extensive
  agricultural flooding is in progress.

* At 26.0 feet...Relocation to higher ground of cattle and some farm
  equipment is necessary.  Agricultural losses are near 100 percent
  in areas that are not protected by levees.  Extensive lowland
  flooding in western Gibson County Indiana.

  will fall below flood stage by Friday evening.
* At 12.0 feet...Lowland flooding reported along Sugar Creek and Big
  Blue River in southern Johnson County in March 2011.  Lowland
  flooding begins along portions of the Driftwood River in northern
  Bartholomew County.  Water is near CR 950N to Double Y Saddle Club.

* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by Wednesday before midnight and
  continue to rise to near 15.9 feet by Friday morning.
* At 16.0 feet...Extensive lowland flooding affecting agricultural
  lands.   Many county and state roads in flood plain become
  impassable by high water.  These include SR 235 East of Medora...SR
  258 East of Cortland...County Road 725 N and possibly State Road 39
  South of Tampico.  High water affects county roads near Vallonia
  and Shields...Ewing Road near Brownstown...County road 525 North
  near Seymour wastewater treatment plant...Honeytown Road and
  possibly state roads 250 East of Dudleytown and 256 west of Austin.

  The East Fork White River near Rivervale.
* from Sunday morning to Tuesday February 27.
* At 10:30 PM Monday the stage was 18.1 feet.
* Flood stage is 20.0 feet.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...The river will moderate below flood stage, then reach
  flood stage this weekend.
* At 20.5 feet...Lawrenceport Road just east of Lawrenceport and on
  the south side of river begins to flood around this level.  By 22
  feet this road is impassable.  During typical floods in this
  area...this portion of the road can be flooded by 5 to more than 10
  feet of water.  During the January 2005 flood...this area would
  have been near the "bottom" of the river...underwater by nearly 17
  feet.  In the great March 1913 flood...more than 25 feet of water
  would have covered this location.

* At 16.2 feet...Flooding begins in the Trails End area of E 116th
  Street.  The lowest house in the area has one foot of water in its
  basement.  Another resident has two feet of water in his garage.
  Flooding along River Road in rural Carmel.  Some residents south of
  E 116th Street along River Drive East must park vehicles on high
  ground.

* At 14.0 feet...High water closes East 77th Street near Mystic Bay.
  River Road floods. River Edge Lane and River Road just north of
  86th Street flood.  Lowest residential areas begin to flood on
  River Edge Lane.  High water staff gage readings begin at 14 feet
  and continue to 25 feet.
