FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR CENTRAL/NORTHERN VERMONT AND
NORTHERN NEW YORK
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BURLINGTON VT
521 AM EDT SAT MAY 23 2015

...GUSTY WINDS AND CRITICALLY LOW MINIMUM RELATIVE HUMIDITIES TODAY...

.DISCUSSION...
GUSTY WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS ARE EXPECTED ONCE AGAIN TODAY AS HIGH
PRESSURE BUILDS EAST FROM THE GREAT LAKES STATES. AFTERNOON MINIMUM
RELATIVE HUMIDITIES WILL REACH CRITICALLY LOW LEVELS AS WELL, BOTTOMING
OUT GENERALLY IN THE 17 TO 25 PERCENT RANGE. DESPITE MOST LOW TO MID
ELEVATION SITES NOW IN FULL SPRING GREEN-UP CONDITIONS, FINE DEAD FUELS
SUCH AS LEAVES AND GRASS FROM THIS PAST WINTER CONTINUE TO SHOW LOW
MOISTURE LEVELS (BELOW 10 PERCENT). THUS CONDITIONS WILL BE
FAVORABLE FOR ANY FIRES TO BURN INTENSELY AND SPREAD QUICKLY TODAY.
THOSE PLANNING OUTDOOR BURNING OF BRUSH OR OTHER MATERIAL TODAY SHOULD
DO SO WITH CAUTION AND CONSIDER POSTPONING THOSE ACTIVITIES UNTIL
SUNDAY OR A LATER TIME WHEN CONDITIONS WILL BE MORE FAVORABLE.
