Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Wrn Montana and N Cntrl Idaho
National Weather Service Missoula MT
444 AM MDT Wed Aug 24 2016

.DISCUSSION...

* Idaho: Clouds will slowly increase throughout the day with a few
showers forming later this afternoon. Winds should remain
generally light and largely diurnal, but with the direction
becoming northeasterly later today and remain that way into
Thursday. Temperatures will remain below normal and the humidity
trend increasing these next few days as a baggy, large scale
trough envelopes the area. However this trough will exit on
Friday with warmer (near normal temperatures) and drier
conditions coming back for the weekend. Breezy afternoon winds
combined with warm, dry conditions could present more
challenging fire weather concerns on Saturday. While the
forecast beyond the weekend is met with quite a bit of
uncertainty, models are trending towards a cooler, wetter
pattern to end the month and welcome September.

* Montana: Scattered showers in NW Montana overnight will spread
south and west today as a baggy trough envelopes the region.
Typical afternoon breezes are anticipated, however for today
through tomorrow they will be northeast to easterly in
direction. And while shower activity is expected to be more
numerous this afternoon, a widespread wetting rain is still not
expected. But those who are fortunate to fall under these
showers can anticipate up to one quarter of an inch to fall
given the slow, drifting nature of these showers. Drier air
still seems to filter into the trough on Thursday, decreasing
the potential for precipitation. This is even more so the case
on Friday, as the upper level trough exits and high pressure
being to develop. Temperatures will remain below normal the next
few days with humidity recovery being quite good overnight.
However warmer and drier conditions are likely for the weekend
where stronger afternoon winds on Saturday afternoon could
present our next target period for fire weather concerns. The
forecast beyond this weekend is met with quite a bit of
uncertainty, but models are trending towards a cooler, wetter
pattern to end the month and welcome September.
