Fire Weather Planning Forecast for NW Oregon and SW Washington
National Weather Service Portland OR
230 PM PDT Thu Oct 19 2017

...THUNDERSTORM THREAT FRIDAY...
...SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL THIS WEEKEND...
...940 AM BRIEFINGS MON-WED-FRI...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A very wet system will continue to
shift southeast across the region this evening and tonight. A colder
and unstable air mass settles over the area tonight and Friday. This
will result in much lower snow levels in the Cascades and the threat
of thunderstorms. Another very wet system is expected over the
weekend.

.DISCUSSION...A very moist frontal boundary was situated over
Western Oregon this afternoon. This moist frontal boundary will
continue to slowly shift southeast this evening and tonight.
Rainfall intensity diminishes late this afternoon and this evening.
A cooler but more unstable air mass settles over the region tonight
and Friday, which will result in the threat of thunderstorms. Snow
levels are expected to lower to near 4000 feet late tonight and
Friday. The latest model charts show another warm-frontal system
spreading into the region Saturday, with another round of heavy rain
possible for Southwest Washington and extreme Northwest Oregon. This
system lingers over the region Sunday. The forecast weekend rainfall
amounts will increase the potential for issues on recent burn scars,
especially the Eagle Creek Fire burn area. A return to drier
conditions looks to occur early next week.
