STRAITS OF FLORIDA FROM OCEAN REEF TO CRAIG KEY 20 TO 60 NM OUT-

...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS MOVING ACROSS THE ATLANTIC WATERS...

AT 130 EDT...A WELL DEFINED LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WAS
STREAMING TOWARDS THE NORTH-NORTHWEST AT 20 TO 25 KNOTS ACROSS THE
STRAITS OF FLORIDA AND WAS CURRENTLY LOCATED 40 MILES SOUTHEAST OF
MOLASSES REEF LIGHT...ELBOW LIGHT...AND CARYSFORT REEF LIGHT. THROUGH
3 PM...MOTION OF THESE STORMS WILL BRING THEM ACROSS THE ATLANTIC
WATERS SOUTH AND EAST OF THE UPPER KEYS. MARINERS IN THESE AREAS
SHOULD PREPARE FOR GUSTY WINDS UP TO 30 KNOTS...LOCALLY ROUGH
SEAS...FREQUENT LIGHTNING STRIKES...AND BLINDING DOWNPOURS WITH
REDUCED VISIBILITY TO ONE QUARTER MILE AT TIMES.

THUNDERSTORMS POSE A VARIETY OF THREATS TO BOATER SAFETY FROM BOTH
GUSTY WINDS AND LIGHTNING. YOUR BEST COURSE OF ACTION DURING
THUNDERSTORMS IS TO SEEK SAFE HARBOR...BUT IF YOU ARE CAUGHT ON THE
OPEN WATER...STAY BELOW DECK...IF POSSIBLE...AND AWAY FROM UNGROUNDED
METAL OBJECTS.
