PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ELKO NV

...JANUARY 2015 CLIMATOLOGICAL SUMMARY FOR NORTHEASTERN AND
CENTRAL NEVADA...

JANUARY 2015 FEATURED AN EXCEPTIONAL RUN OF HIGH PRESSURE
ACROSS THE WESTERN UNITED STATES. AFTER STARTING OUT COLD...
TEMPERATURES WARMED UP RAPIDLY AND REMAINED WARM THROUGH THE
REMAINDER OF THE MONTH. THIS WARM AND DRY HIGH PRESSURE
REGIME WAS ONLY INTERRUPTED BRIEFLY BY RELATIVELY WEAK STORM
SYSTEMS AROUND JANUARY 12TH...JANUARY 27TH AND JANUARY 30TH.
BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMELY DOMINANT AND WARM HIGH PRESSURE
SYSTEMS...TEMPERATURES AVERAGED FAR FAR ABOVE NORMAL WITH
MANY AREAS CLOSE TO MONTHLY RECORDS. PRECIPITATION WAS ALSO
WELL BELOW NORMAL BUT NOT AS CLOSE TO RECORDS. HOWEVER...THE
DRYNESS COMBINED WITH VERY WARM TEMPERATURES ALSO RESULTED IN
SNOWFALL READINGS WHICH WERE VERY CLOSE TO RECORD LOW VALUES
FOR THE MONTH...WITH MANY PLACES NOT RECORDING ANY MEASURABLE
SNOW DURING THE MONTH. IN ADDITION...THE ALL-TIME RECORD HIGH
TEMPERATURE FOR JANUARY WAS TIED IN ELKO ON THE 26TH.

THE TABLES BELOW SUMMARIZE THE WEATHER AT FOUR OF OUR AIRPORT
CLIMATE SITES DURING THE PERIOD. TEMPERATURES ARE IN DEGREES
FAHRENHEIT...WHILE PRECIPITATION AND SNOWFALL IS IN INCHES.
