...UPDATED TO INCLUDE MORE DAMAGE FOUND IN MILLER COUNTY ARKANSAS...

...NWS DAMAGE SURVEY FOR APRIL 11 2016 TORNADO AND DAMAGING WIND
EVENT...

..OVERVIEW...SEVERAL SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPED AND MOVED
OVER PARTS OF THE FOUR-STATE REGION DURING THE LATE MORNING AND
THROUGH THE AFTERNOON HOURS. ONE OF THESE SUPERCELLS PRODUCED A
BRIEF TORNADO IN SOUTH ARKANSAS WHILE THE OTHERS ONLY GENERATED
LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING STRAIGHT-LINE WINDS IN NORTHEAST TEXAS.

SURVEY_SUMMARY: THE TORNADO BEGAN NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF COUNTY
ROAD 294 AND U.S. HIGHWAY 82 WHERE IT DAMAGED SEVERAL TREES AND
SNAPPED OFF NUMEROUS LIMBS. IT REMAINED ON THE GROUND FOR JUST
OVER ONE MILE WHERE IT SNAPPED A LARGE OAK ALONG COUNTY ROAD 34
BEFORE LIFTING. A LARGE BARN JUST SOUTH ALONG COUNTY ROAD 34 WAS
ALSO COLLAPSED DUE TO THE REAR FLANK DOWNDRAFT WINDS ASSOCIATED
WITH THE STORM.

LOCATION:               5 MILES SOUTHEAST OF TEXARKANA ARKANSAS

SURVEY_SUMMARY: WIDESPREAD STRAIGHT-LINE WIND DAMAGE OCCURRED 5
MILES SOUTHEAST OF TEXARKANA WITH TREES SNAPPED AND UPROOTED ALL
ALONG UNION ROAD AND OLD BLACKMAN FERRY ROAD AS WELL AS UTILITY
POLES AND POWER LINES ON DUNDEE ROAD. ONE HOME ALONG UNION ROAD
ALSO SUSTAINED MINOR ROOF DAMAGE WITH NUMEROUS SHINGLES PULLED
BACK OR TORN OFF COMPLETELY. ADDITIONAL TREES WERE SNAPPED AND
UPROOTED ON DEER CREEK ROAD AND ALONG CARPENTER ROAD. ALL OF THE
DAMAGE WAS CONCENTRATED ALONG THIS NARROW PATH.

SIGNIFICANT ROOF DAMAGE WAS FOUND TO TWO HOMES IN THE EASTERN
SECTION OF MILLER COUNTY...ABOUT 8 MILES NORTHEAST OF FOUKE NEAR
THE INTERSECTION OF HWY 196 AND CR249. TREES WERE UPROOTED AND
SNAPPED GENERALLY LAYING IN AN EASTERN DIRECTION. A TRAVEL TRAILER
AND A COUPLE OF BARNS AND OUTBUILDINGS ALSO RECEIVED DAMAGE. THE
ESTIMATED TIME OF THIS DAMAGE OCCURRED AROUND 12:30 PM.

ADDITIONAL SURVEYS WERE CONDUCTED ACROSS NORTHEAST TEXAS BUT THE
MAIN DAMAGE FOUND WAS DUE TO LARGE HAIL THAT OCCURRED WITH A LONE
SUPERCELL THAT TRACKED FROM NEAR WINNSBORO TEXAS TO THE LOUISIANA
STATE LINE. ALTHOUGH MULTIPLE TORNADO WARNINGS WERE ISSSUED FOR
THIS STORM...NO DAMAGE CONSISTENT WITH A TORNADO WAS FOUND DURING
OUR SURVEYS TO INCLUDE IN HARRISON COUNTY NEAR THE MARSHALL AREA.
ONE ADDITIONAL SURVEY IN BIENVILLE PARISH IN NORTH LOUISIANA WAS
CONDUCTED BUT NO DAMAGE WAS FOUND.
