.DISCUSSION...

Today and Tonight:
The widespread accumulating snowfall across the region has tapered
to scattered flurries this morning, leaving a generally dry day
across northeast Montana. Given light winds and peeks of late
March sun, a bit of melting and no blowing snow concerns are
expected as well.

Saturday through Monday:
The Winter Storm Watch remains intact as a combination of high
confidence for at least moderate impacts from snow amounts over 6"
and blowing/drifting snow is maintained over much of the area.
Little fluctuations in the track of the system sliding east across
Wyoming results in the greatest uncertainty and cutoff in amounts
near the Canadian border. While east winds pick up on Saturday and
light snow overspreads the region, Saturday evening through Sunday
afternoon is the peak combination of heavier snowfall rates and
wind gusts over 30 mph. Expect headline decisions by this
afternoon to be guided by snow totals and visibility impacts from
blowing snow even where little to none is falling.

Monday night onward:
A drier and slightly warmer trend is favored with high pressure in
place. The fresh snow will maintain much below normal temperatures
to start with that includes a night or two near or below zero.
Ensembles suggest a general lack of wind and stationary front
setup along the lee of the Rockies, keeping an inversion in place
over eastern Montana and introducing chances for light rain/snow
toward central and southern portions of the state by midweek.
