Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Northeast Montana
National Weather Service Glasgow MT
806 PM MDT Sun Apr 21 2024

...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 9 PM MDT MONDAY
GUSTY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY...

.DISCUSSION...
A dry air mass ahead of the cold front that will move through
tonight has provided some breezy conditions out of the southwest
switching to west, along with RH values as low as 15 percent,
which has allowed critical fire weather conditions to develop.
Therefore, a Red Flag Warning has been issued and is out through 8
PM today.

A cold front will move through the area tonight with
little to no measurable rainfall associated with it. The latest
guidance continues to suggest that sustained wind speeds of 25 to
35 mph will be widespread across the entire area Monday, with
gusts up to 50 mph. Based on this, there is high (80%) confidence
that locations south of a line from the Little Rockies to Wibaux
will have near critical conditions for fire weather on Monday.
This is in response to forecast winds reaching and/or exceeding RH
values. RH values may drop as low as 20 percent Monday afternoon.
Heading into midweek, there will be little change in RH, but
winds back off considerably.
