OCTOBER 2016 WAS MUCH WARMER THAN NORMAL ACROSS CENTRAL AND WESTERN
LOWER MICHIGAN. THE AVERAGE MONTHLY TEMPERATURE WAS IN THE MID
50S... AROUND 4 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL. OCTOBER WAS ALSO A WET
MONTH... WITH MANY STATIONS RECORDING ABOVE NORMAL RAINFALL. THE
FIRST ACCUMULATING SNOW OF THE SEASON FELL IN MUCH OF CENTRAL
MICHIGAN ON OCTOBER 26TH... AND AREAS NORTH OF BIG RAPIDS AND MOUNT
PLEASANT RECEIVED GENERALLY 1 TO 2 INCHES. A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW
WAS OBSERVED AT LANSING FOR THE FIRST TIME OF THE SEASON. THERE WERE
SEVERAL DAYS WITH THUNDERSTORMS... BUT NO SEVERE WEATHER OCCURRED IN
THIS PART OF MICHIGAN.

SEVERAL DAILY RECORDS WERE SET OR TIED DURING THE MONTH. GRAND
RAPIDS SET DAILY RAINFALL RECORDS ON OCTOBER 6TH... 16TH (TIED)...
AND 26TH. LANSING SET RAINFALL RECORDS ON THE 16TH AND 26TH. RECORD
WARM LOW TEMPERATURES OCCURRED AT GRAND RAPIDS... LANSING (TIED)...
AND MUSKEGON ON OCTOBER 17TH. LANSING ALSO TIED ITS RECORD WARM LOW
TEMPERATURE ON THE 16TH.
