DROUGHT INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MEMPHIS TN
927 AM CDT THU MAY 26 2016

...ABNORMALLY DRY CONDITIONS LIKELY TO CONTINUE ACROSS NE
MISSISSIPPI...

CONDITIONS ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI HAVE BEEN
DRIER THAN NORMAL OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS WITH LESS THAN A
QUARTER OF AN INCH OF RAIN RECEIVED. THE LACK OF ADEQUATE
RAINFALL HAS RESULTED IN A LOWER THAN NORMAL TOP SOIL MOISTURE
CONTENT. LATE PLANTED SOYBEANS ARE MOST LIKELY TO BE AFFECTED BY
THE MOISTURE DEFICIT IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER RECENTLY PLANTED
CROPS. THE LOCATION OF A RIDGE ALOFT AND SURFACE HIGH JUST TO THE
EAST OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS WILL LIKELY LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF
RAINFALL OVER THE IMPACTED AREA WHICH WILL ALLOW DRY CONDITIONS TO
PERSIST INTO NEXT WEEK. THE LATEST PRECIPITATION FORECASTS DEPICT
LESS THAN A QUARTER OF AN INCH OF RAIN OVER THE NEXT SEVEN DAYS
OVER THE IMPACTED AREA WITH MORE RAINFALL LIKELY NEAR THE DELTA
REGION OF NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI.
