THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN BIRMINGHAM HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR...
  JEFFERSON COUNTY IN ALABAMA...

* UNTIL 430 AM CST

* AT 134 AM CST...AN AREA OF HEAVY RAINFALL CONTINUES ACROSS MUCH OF
JEFFERSON COUNTY WITH DRAINAGE BASINS BECOMING OVERWHELMED DUE TO
THE AMOUNT OF RUNOFF CONTINUING. ALMOST 2 INCHES OF RAINFALL HAVE
BEEN ESTIMATED OVER THE PAST 3 HOURS WIHT AN ADDITIONAL 1 TO 2
INCHES POSSIBLE THROUGH 4AM.

* RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING TO
  OCCUR. SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE...
  BESSEMER...BIRMINGHAM...FAIRFIELD...FULTONDALE...GARDENDALE...
  HOMEWOOD...HOOVER...HUEYTOWN...IRONDALE...LEEDS...MOUNTAIN BROOK...
  TRUSSVILLE...VESTAVIA HILLS...ADAMSVILLE...CAHABA HEIGHTS...CENTER
  POINT...CHALKVILLE AND CLAY.

STREET FLOODING HAS ALREADY BEEN REPORTED ACROSS THE BIRMINGHAM
METRO AREA...WITH PUBLIC REPORTS OF FLOODED BASEMENTS IN ENSLEY. DUE
TO CONTINUED RUNOFF...SURROUNDING FLASHY CREEKS COULD OVERFLOW THEIR
BANKS SUCH AS VILLAGE CREEK AND FIVE MILE CREEK. ADDITIONAL STREETS
AND ROADWAYS COULD BECOME IMPASSIBLE OVER THE NEXT THREE HOURS AS
RAINFALL CONTINUES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION. RAINFALL FROM PERSISTENT RAINBANDS
WILL PRODUCE FLOODING IN LOW LYING AREAS AND ALONG STREETS. MANY
ROADS WILL BE CLOSED DUE TO HIGH WATER AND DRIVING IS NOT RECOMMENDED
DURING THE NEXT SEVERAL HOURS.

ADDITIONAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 1 TO 2 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE
WARNED AREA THROUGH 4AM.

BE ESPECIALLY CAUTIOUS AT NIGHT WHEN IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE
DANGERS OF FLOODING. IF FLASH FLOODING IS OBSERVED ACT QUICKLY. DO
NOT ENTER THE WATER. TURN AROUND AND MOVE UP TO HIGHER GROUND TO
ESCAPE FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT STAY IN AREAS SUBJECT TO FLOODING WHEN
WATER BEGINS RISING.
