FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR ALASKA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE ANCHORAGE AK
345 PM AKDT MON MAY 2 2016

.DISCUSSION...
AN UNSTABLE AIR MASS WILL PERSIST OVER SOUTHWEST ALASKA THROUGH
MIDWEEK WITH SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING EACH AFTERNOON
AND EVENING. THE THUNDERSTORM COVERAGE THIS EVENING WILL BE WIDELY
SCATTERED WITH MOST OF THOSE FORMING ALONG THE THERMAL TROUGH AXIS
STRETCHING FROM THE MIDDLE KUSKOKWIM VALLEY INTO THE GREATER BRISTOL
BAY AREA. INSTABILITY WILL BE WEAKER ON TUESDAY FOR A MUCH SPARSER
COVERAGE OF LIGHTNING AND THEN INCREASE SOMEWHAT AGAIN ON WEDNESDAY.
ON THURSDAY A FRONT APPROACHING THE ALASKA PENINSULA FROM THE SOUTH
WILL STABILIZE CONDITIONS BUT WILL ALSO BRING INCREASING EAST TO
NORTHEAST WINDS AND LOWERING HUMIDITIES.
