National Weather Service Cheyenne WY
249 AM MDT Wed Jun 28 2017

RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY TO 6 PM MDT THIS
EVENING FOR THE UPPER NORTH PLATTE RIVER VALLEY

.DISCUSSION...A deeply mixed boundary layer is expected once again this afternoon. Model
sounding indicate mixing heights as high as 13,000 ft. With moderate lower to mid level
winds still present, expect winds to be 20 to 25 mph with gusts to 40 mph at times
especially over Carbon County. RH values will fall as low as 10 to 15 percent west of
the Laramie Range so have issued a Red Flag Warning where fuels are ready. Elevated
conditions are also possible over the South Laramie Range as well as the Rawlins area
this afternoon. Fuels are still in the green category near Rawlins but will need to
watch wind and RH over the South Laramie Range for the potential for critical conditions
here as well this afternoon. A cold front will move across the area on Thursday bringing
cooler temperatures and reducing the fire weather concerns somewhat.
