FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NW OREGON AND SW WASHINGTON
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PORTLAND OR
929 AM PDT WED JUL 23 2014

...WETTING RAIN FOR MOST AREAS BY THURSDAY MORNING...
...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS THROUGH THIS EVENING...

.BROADCAST DISCUSSION...A COLD FRONT IS ABOUT TO MOVE ONSHORE INTO
WASHINGTON AND OREGON THIS MORNING...AND IS SPREADING RAIN ACROSS THE
DISTRICT. STEADY RAIN THIS MORNING WILL TURN MORE SHOWERY THIS AFTERNOON
AND EVENING...WITH ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING. TEMPERATURES WILL
STRUGGLE TO REACH 70 DEGREES IN THE VALLEY...SO TODAY WILL BE 10 TO 15
DEGREES BELOW NORMAL. A SECONDARY DISTURBANCE WILL SWING THROUGH TONIGHT
AND EARLY THURSDAY...BRINGING MORE SHOWERS. AFTER THAT..EXPECT A MAJOR
WARMUP AS AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE BUILDS IN LATER THIS WEEK INTO THIS WEEKEND.

.DISCUSSION...ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPED ALONG AND NEAR THE CASCADE
CREST TUESDAY...PRODUCING SEVERAL LIGHTNING STRIKES IN THE WILLAMETTE NF
AND UP THE CHAIN OF THE CASCADES...NOW AFFECTING SOME WASHINGTON ZONES.
THE FRONT ALOFT IS RACING OUT AHEAD OF THE SURFACE FRONT...PRODUCING
LIGHTNING EARLIER THIS MORNING IN THE MOUNT HOOD AND GIFFORD PINCHOT
NATIONAL FORESTS. THIS LIGHTNING HAS GENERALLY MOVED FURTHER NORTH AND EAST
OF OUR DISTRICT...AND RAIN ASSOCIATED WITH THE SURFACE FRONT IS SPREADING
ACROSS SW WASHINGTON AND NW OREGON. UP TO ONE INCH OF RAIN HAS ALREADY
FALLEN ACROSS PORTIONS OF THE COAST AND COAST RANGE...WITH SIMILAR TOTALS
EXPECTED ACROSS THE CASCADES. MOIST INSTABILITY BEHIND THE FRONT SHOULD
LEAD TO A FEW MORE THUNDERSTORMS LATER THIS AFTERNOON...BUT THESE WOULD
BE VERY WET AND BRIEF. A SECONDARY DISTURBANCE WILL LIKELY KEEP SHOWERS IN
OUR NORTHERN ZONES TONIGHT...THEN HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD IN FOR A DRYING
TREND THURSDAY. AN UPPER LEVEL RIDGE COULD BRING A RETURN TO ABOVE NORMAL
TEMPERATURES AS EARLY AS THIS WEEKEND. WEAGLE
