...CHANGE IN DAILY CLIMATE REPORT...

IN A MOVE TO STANDARDIZE AND ESTABLISH CONSISTENCY IN NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE PRODUCTS, AS OF TODAY, WEDNESDAY JANUARY 21, 2015, WE
HAVE MADE A SMALL CHANGE TO OUR DAILY CLIMATE REPORTS. THESE
REPORTS ARE TYPICALLY FOUND UNDER THE CLI HEADER.

THE CHANGE THAT WILL BE MADE IS UNDER THE PRECIPITATION SECTION.
PRESENTLY, THERE ARE ROWS INDICATING THE PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS
"SINCE JUL 1" AND "SINCE JAN 1". THE PRECIPITATION AMOUNT SINCE JULY
1 HAS BEEN CHANGED TO NOW REFLECT THE PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS SINCE OCT
1.

THIS CHANGE WILL KEEP PRECIPITATION REPORTS IN THE DAILY NWS CLIMATE
REPORTS CONSISTENT WITH THE U.S. GEOLOGIC SURVEY, STATE OF CALIFORNIA
WATER AGENCIES, AND MOST OTHER WEATHER OFFICES NATIONWIDE WHO UTILIZE
THE OCTOBER 1 "WATER YEAR" DEFINITION. THIS WILL ALSO MATCH
CLIMATE MONITORING SITES SUCH AS WATER.WEATHER.GOV AND THE WESTERN
REGION CLIMATE CENTER.

PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE DOES NOT REFLECT AN OFFICIAL CHANGE TO THE COMMONLY
USED PRACTICE OF CALIFORNIA`S RAINFALL YEAR WHICH HAS BEEN USED
FOR PERHAPS CLOSE TO THE PAST 100 YEARS IN THE STATE. IT IS JUST A
CHANGE TO THE DAILY CLIMATE REPORT TO ENSURE CONSISTENCY AND
STANDARDIZE THESE REPORTS.
