Rangeland Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Sioux Falls SD
340 AM CDT Tue Oct 24 2017

.DISCUSSION...

Strong northerly winds expected on Tuesday as gusts approach 40
to 50 mph across the region. Winds will begin to subside for
Wednesday, but sustained winds of 10 to 20 mph are still likely.
After breezy southwesterly winds Wednesday night, a powerful cold
front brings 50 mph winds into the area on Thursday along with a
chance for rain or snow.

Fire danger risks will be elevated to high across the region,
especially in agricultural fields.

...HIGH FIRE DANGER...

The Grassland Fire Danger Index will reach the high category
this afternoon. Unfavorable weather conditions or a low
moisture content of grasses and other dry organic material
on the ground indicate that there is a moderate to high
potential for a fire occurrence. Outdoor burning should be
restricted to early morning or evening hours when wind speeds
are usually lower and the relative humidity is higher.

OUTLOOK FOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
will it reflect conditions in road ditches which have been mowed.

for a fire occurrence. Do not leave outdoor fires unattended
under these conditions.

OUTLOOK FOR WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON...The Grassland Fire Danger Index
will reach the low category.

The grassland fire danger product reflects fire danger for native
grasses. It is not intended for cured agricultural crops, nor
