HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SATELLITE INTERPRETATION MESSAGE
NWS CENTRAL PACIFIC HURRICANE CENTER HONOLULU HI

BASED ON DATA THROUGH 1200 UTC DECEMBER 27 2014

LOW CLOUD COVERAGE STATEWIDE HAS SHOWN A INCREASED SINCE SUNSET
BUT THEY ARE STABLE...SHALLOW...AND SHOWER FREE. THE INCREASE IS
PRIMARILY OVER OAHU AND THE WINDWARD WATERS FROM OAHU TO THE BIG
ISLAND. INFRARED IMAGERY ALSO SHOW A 50 MILE WIDE BAND OF LOW
CLOUDS WITH A FEW LIGHT SHOWERS NOW MOVING THROUGH KAUAI COUNTY AT
30 MPH. THIS BAND COULD BE THE REMNANT OF AN OLD FRONT. SCATTERED
TOWERING CUMULUS CLOUDS /TCU/ AND ISOLATED CUMULONIMBUS /CB/ CLOUDS
ARE NOTED AT ITS NORTHERN SEGMENT BETWEEN 30N149W AND 26N155W.

TCU AND CB/S ACTIVITY HAVE INCREASED IN THE PAST COUPLE OF HOURS
OVER HFO/S AREA...EAST OF THE OLD FRONT. AN EXISTING FRONT REMAINS
SLOW IN MOVING EASTWARD WITH ITS COORDINATES AT 1130 UTC OF
30N143W 26N143W 20N146W AND 15N150W. SCATTERED CB/S ARE LOCATED
WITHIN 270 MILES WEST OF THIS FRONT NORTH OF 25N. ISOLATED CB/S ARE
ALSO PRESENT WITHIN 160 MILE EAST OF THE FRONT. THE TOPS OF THE CB/S
ARE UP TO 44000 FEET.

THE ONLY THUNDERSTORM IN THE TROPICS SOUTH OF THE ISLANDS IS FAR
SOUTHWEST OF KAUAI NEAR 05N174W.

THE ANIMATION OF THE WATER VAPOR IMAGERY THIS EARLY SATURDAY MORNING
REVEALS A CYCLONIC FLOW ALOFT WITH AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE
PASSING NORTH OF THE ISLANDS. THERE IS ALSO THE LIKELIHOOD OF THE
NOSE TO A JET STREAM LOCATED JUST NORTHWEST OF KAUAI.
