RIDGE TODAY...

.A STRONG COLD FRONT COMBINE WITH EXTREMELY HIGH LEVELS OF
MOISTURE WILL RESULT IN WIDESPREAD SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS
ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS OF NORTH CAROLINA TODAY. STORM
TOTAL RAINFALL AMOUNTS OF 2 TO 4 INCHES...WITH EVEN LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED ALONG THE BLUE RIDGE...ESPECIALLY FROM
TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY NORTHEAST. THIS AMOUNT OF RAINFALL COULD BE
ENOUGH TO PRODUCE SOME FLASH FLOODING IN PARTICULARLY FLOOD PRONE
AREAS. THE RAIN IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN TAPERING OFF THIS
AFTERNOON...ENDING BY THIS EVENING.

* FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR A PORTION OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA...
  INCLUDING THE FOLLOWING AREAS...AVERY...BUNCOMBE...BURKE
  MOUNTAINS...CALDWELL MOUNTAINS...HENDERSON...MCDOWELL
  MOUNTAINS...MITCHELL...POLK MOUNTAINS...RUTHERFORD MOUNTAINS...
   TRANSYLVANIA AND YANCEY.

* THROUGH THIS EVENING

* A STRONG COLD FRONT AND UNUSUALLY HIGH LEVELS OF MOISTURE WILL
  RESULT IN WIDESPREAD HEAVY RAIN SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS
  ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS THIS MORNING INTO THE AFTERNOON. UP TO 1.5
  INCHES OF RAIN HAVE ALREADY FALLEN ACROSS THE WATCH AREA SINCE
  TUESDAY EVENING...AND ANOTHER 1.5 TO 3 INCHES IS EXPECTED BY THE
  TIME THE RAIN TAPERS OFF THIS AFTERNOON.

* ENHANCED RAIN RATES ASSOCIATED WITH THUNDERSTORMS AND HEAVY RAIN
  SHOWERS COULD RESULT IN FLASH FLOODING ALONG ESPECIALLY FLOOD
  PRONE CREEKS AND SMALL STREAMS. THE WIDESPREAD NATURE OF THE
  HEAVY RAIN WILL ALSO CAUSE ELEVATED LEVELS ON MAIN STEM RIVERS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLASH FLOOD WATCH MEANS THAT CONDITIONS MAY DEVELOP THAT LEAD
TO FLASH FLOODING. FLASH FLOODING IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.

YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION
SHOULD FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS BE ISSUED.
