TONIGHT IN THE FAR WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA...

.A STRONG LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IN THE MIDWESTERN UNITED STATES WILL
SEND A COLD FRONT EASTWARD ACROSS THE SOUTHERN APPALACHIANS LATER
TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT. THE FRONT WILL INTERACT WITH ABUNDANT GULF
AND ATLANTIC MOISTURE OVER THE SOUTHEAST TO GENERATE SHOWERS AND
THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS AND IMMEDIATELY ADJACENT
FOOTHILLS OF THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA. HEAVY
RAINFALL RATES WILL RESULT AND THE CHANCE OF LOCALIZED FLASH
FLOODING WILL INCREASE THROUGH THE DAY AND INTO TONIGHT.

  RABUN. IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA...AVERY...BURKE MOUNTAINS...
  BUNCOMBE...CALDWELL MOUNTAINS...EASTERN MCDOWELL...GREATER
  BURKE...GREATER CALDWELL...HAYWOOD...HENDERSON...MCDOWELL

* A COLD FRONT APPROACHING THE REGION FROM THE WEST WILL INTERACT
  WITH A VERY MOIST AND UNSTABLE AIR MASS TO PRODUCE WIDESPREAD
  SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS THE MOUNTAINS AND FOOTHILLS OF
  THE WESTERN CAROLINAS AND NORTHEAST GEORGIA TODAY INTO TONIGHT.
  STORM TOTAL RAINFALL OF 2 TO 4 INCHES IS EXPECTED...WITH LOCALLY
  HIGHER AMOUNTS POSSIBLE IN AREAS THAT SEE MULTIPLE HEAVY
  THUNDERSTORMS AND IN MOUNTAINOUS AREAS ALONG SOUTH FACING
  SLOPES. THE CHANCE OF LOCALIZED FLASH FLOODING WILL INCREASE
  THROUGH THE DAY AND INTO TONIGHT.

* EXCESSIVE RAINFALL IN A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME MAY RESULT IN RAPID
  RISES ON CREEKS AND SMALLER STREAMS. IN ADDITION...AREA MAIN
  STEM RIVERS MAY SEE CONSIDERABLE RISES TO NEAR BANKFULL.
