BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED
Flash Flood Warning
National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC
351 PM EDT Wed May 15 2024

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Central Cherokee County in upstate South Carolina...

* Until 645 PM EDT.

* At 351 PM EDT, Torrential rainfall over central Cherokee County
  including the city of Gaffney has produced 1.5 to 3 inches of
  rainfall in less than 90 minutes. This rate of rainfall is enough
  to quickly overwhelm the headwater streams around Gaffney,
  including Peoples Creek, Limestone Creek and Irene Creek in and
  near the city of Gaffney as well as East Gaffney, likely impacting
  low-lying roadways, property, as well as a few structures. Areas
  potentially impacted include near Thompson St, Beech St, and
  Colonial Ave. The heaviest rainfall is starting to shift south
  and east of Gaffney, but it will take at least another 30-60
  minutes for streams to crest. Expect flash-flooding to develop
  over warned area imminently.

  HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.

  SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.

  IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban
           areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as
           other poor drainage and low-lying areas. This may
           produce deeper flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to
           area streams with impacts to vulnerable structures
           possible. Expect extensive flooding of farmland,
           parks, greenways, boat-access areas, and golf
           courses. Inundation may be several feet deep. Other
           flood-prone areas will be impacted including low-lying
           roadways, low- water crossings, underpasses, and
           parking lots. Several low-water crossings, roads, and
           bridges may be flooded and impassible, with deeper
           flows over roadways possible. Culvert and roadway
           washouts are possible.

* Some locations that may experience flash flooding include...
  Gaffney, Draytonville, Thicketty and Cherokee Falls.
