SUBJECT: NEW FLOOD INUNDATION MAP FOR THE SALUDA RIVER NEAR
         GREENVILLE SC

EFFECTIVE JUNE 11 2014...THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE (NWS) WILL ADD
A NEW FLOOD INUNDATION MAP TO THE ADVANCED HYDROLOGIC PREDICTION
SERVICE (AHPS) WEB PORTAL FOR THE SALUDA RIVER NEAR GREENVILLE SC.
THIS INUNDATION MAP IS ASSOCIATED WITH UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL
SURVEY (USGS) STREAMFLOW GAGING STATION 02162500 WHICH IS ALSO AN
NWS FORECAST LOCATION. THE MAPPING EXTENDS NORTH AND SOUTH OF THE
GAGED SITE.

INUNDATION MAPS PROVIDE INFORMATION ON THE SPATIAL EXTENT AND DEPTH
OF FLOOD WATERS IN THE VICINITY OF GAGED LOCATION. USERS WILL BE
ABLE TO DISPLAY FLOOD INUNDATION MAPS AT 1 FOOT INTERVALS FROM MINOR
FLOODING THROUGH THE LARGEST OBSERVED FLOOD RECORDED AT THE USGS
GAGING STATION FOR THE PERIOD OF 1942-2012.

FLOOD INUNDATION MAPS...COMBINED WITH RIVER OBSERVATIONS AND NWS
FORECASTS...ENHANCE THE COMMUNICATION OF FLOOD RISK..PROVIDE USERS
WITH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TO BETTER MITIGATE THE IMPACTS OF
FLOODING...AND BUILD MORE RESILIENT COMMUNITIES.

(SHAPEFILES) CAN BE ACCESSED THROUGH THE AHPS PORTAL (USE LOWERCASE
LETTERS):
