...NWS METEOROLOGISTS CONFIRM A TORNADO OCCURRED IN CLEVELAND AND
BURKE COUNTIES...

The National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg SC
is currently conducting a storm survey in North Carolina related
to damage that occurred the evening of October 8 2017.
Preliminary results confirm an EF0 Tornado that tracked from near
Polkville in Cleveland County moving north- northeast to 1 mile
inside Burke County. A second EF1 tornado has been confirmed near
Connelly Springs in Burke County.

A final assessment including precise location, path length, and
other results of the survey are expected to be completed and
transmitted via a Public Information Statement this evening.

It will also be available on our website at weather.gov/gsp.

For reference: the Enhanced Fujita Scale classifies tornadoes
into the following categories:

EF0...Wind speeds 65 to 85 mph
EF1...Wind speeds 86 to 110 mph
EF2...Wind speeds 111 to 135 mph
EF3...Wind speeds 136 to 165 mph
EF4...Wind speeds 166 to 200 mph
EF5...Wind speeds greater than 200 mph
