NORTHEASTERN MITCHELL AND SOUTHWESTERN AVERY COUNTIES UNTIL 845 PM
EDT...

AT 808 PM EDT...DOPPLER RADAR WAS TRACKING A SERIES OF THUNDERSTORMS
WITH TORRENTIAL RAINFALL REDEVELOPING ALONG THE BORDER BETWEEN
MITCHELL AND AVERY COUNTIES...PRODUCING VERY HEAVY RAINFALL FROM
BAKERSVILLE TO WEST OF NEWLAND. RADAR INDICATED RAINFALL RATES OF 1
TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR AND ADDITIONAL HEAVY RAINFALL WILL BE POSSIBLE
IN THIS AREA THROUGH 845 PM.

THE HEAVY RAINFALL MAY PRODUCE STREET FLOODING AND FLOODING OF LOW
LYING AREAS FROM BAKERSVILLE IN MITCHELL COUNTY TO ALTAMONT TO NEAR
MINNEAPOLIS IN AVERY COUNTY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TORRENTIAL RAINFALL MAY FLOOD AREAS WITH POOR DRAINAGE...SUCH AS
DITCHES AND UNDERPASSES. AVOID THESE AREAS AND DO NOT CROSS FLOODED
ROADS. WATER LEVELS OF SMALL STREAMS MAY ALSO RISE RAPIDLY. SEEK
HIGHER GROUND IF THREATENED BY FLOOD WATERS. DO NOT DRIVE ACROSS
FLOODED ROADS.
