CAROLINA MOUNTAINS THIS MORNING INTO THIS AFTERNOON...

.A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL TRACK FROM THE NORTHERN GULF COAST
TO THE NORTH CAROLINA OUTER BANKS BY EARLY SATURDAY. ABUNDANT DEEP
MOISTURE WILL ACCOMPANY THE SYSTEM...WHILE COLD HIGH PRESSURE WILL
REMAIN ACROSS THE MID ATLANTIC STATES. THE COMBINATION OF THE
MOISTURE AND COLD AIR WILL RESULT IN A MIXED BAG OF WINTRY
PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE NORTH CAROLINA MOUNTAINS... WITH LIGHT
ACCUMULATIONS OF SNOW...SLEET...AND ICE EXPECTED.

  ESCARPMENT OF NORTH CAROLINA.

* HAZARDS...LIGHT ICE...SNOW...AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS.

* TIMING...A MIX OF SNOW AND SLEET WILL SLOWLY TRANSITION TO
  FREEZING BY EARLY AFTERNOON. WHILE MOST AREAS SHOULD THEN
  TRANSITION QUICKLY TO RAIN...A SMALL AREA OF FREEZING
  TEMPERATURES IS EXPECTED TO BECOME LOCKED IN FOR AT LEAST A FEW
  HOURS THIS AFTERNOON ALONG THE BLUE RIDGE...MAINLY FROM THE OLD
  FORT AREA...TO SPRUCE PINE...TO JONAS RIDGE AND LINVILLE...TO
  BLOWING ROCK. THIS WILL RESULT IN A CONTINUATION OF FREEZING
  RAIN IN THESE LOCATIONS UNTIL MID-AFTERNOON OR SO. FALLING SNOW
  LEVELS WILL ALLOW FOR A TRANSITION TO SNOW ACROSS THE HIGH
  ELEVATIONS BY DAYBREAK SATURDAY...TAPERING OFF BY MIDDAY.

* ACCUMULATIONS...TOTAL SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS OF 1 TO 3
  INCHES...WITH MOST OF THE SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OCCURRING SATURDAY
  MORNING. A FEW TREES AND POWER LINES COULD ALSO FALL NEAR THE
  BLUE RIDGE DUE TO ICE ACCUMULATION.

* IMPACTS...ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE AND SNOW WILL MAKE ROADS
  HAZARDOUS. A FEW TREES AND POWER LINES COULD ALSO FALL NEAR

  INCHES...WITH MOST OF THE SNOW ACCUMULATION EARLY SATURDAY. A
  TRACE TO A FEW HUNDREDTHS OF AN INCH OF FREEZING RAIN IS LIKELY
  IN SPOTS THIS MORNING. AROUND A TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE IS
  EXPECTED IN THE MONTREAT AND BLACK MOUNTAIN AREAS OF BUNCOMBE
  COUNTY.
