FIRE WEATHER PLANNING FORECAST FOR NORTHERN ALABAMA
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HUNTSVILLE AL
421 AM CDT FRI APR 18 2014

.DISCUSSION...
AN AREA OF SURFACE LOW PRESSURE CURRENTLY OVER THE NORTHEASTERN
GULF OF MEXICO WILL SHIFT EASTWARD ACROSS NORTH FLORIDA AND INTO
THE WESTERN ATLANTIC BY LATE SATURDAY AFTERNOON. LIGHT RAIN ON
THE NORTHWESTERN PERIPHERY OF THIS SYSTEM WILL IMPACT PORTIONS OF
NORTHERN ALABAMA TODAY AND TONIGHT...WITH THE HIGHEST PROBABILITY
FOR WETTING RAINFALL IN CULLMAN/MARSHALL/DEKALB/JACKSON COUNTIES.
THICK CLOUDS WILL LIMIT MIXING HEIGHTS TO THE 4000-4500 FT RANGE
TODAY...WITH ONLY FAIR SMOKE DISPERSION EXPECTED. HIGHER MIXING
HEIGHTS COUPLED WITH TRANSPORT FLOW AROUND 20 MPH WILL RESULT IN
GOOD SMOKE DISPERSION ON SATURDAY.

IN THE EXTENDED PORTION OF THE FIRE WEATHER FORECAST PERIOD...
HIGH PRESSURE WILL DOMINATE DURING THE SECOND HALF OF THE WEEKEND
WITH LIGHT WINDS AND DRY CONDITIONS. THE NEXT CHANCE OF SHOWERS
AND STORMS WILL ARRIVE ON MONDAY AFTERNOON...WITH MORE WIDESPREAD
PRECIPITATION ON MONDAY NIGHT/TUESDAY MORNING AS ANOTHER COLD
FRONT PUSHES ACROSS THE REGION. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD SOUTHWARD
IN THE WAKE OF THIS COLD FRONT WITH COOLER/DRIER WEATHER NEXT
WEDNESDAY/THURSDAY.
